GENERAL
RULES
SECTION ONE. The winners of the awards shall be the registered Arabian horse and the registered Half-Arabian horse which scores the highest number of points during the period ending thirty (30) days prior to the Annual Meeting of the Virginia Arabian Horse Association and beginning the following day for the next year. If a horse show is in progress on the day that is thirty (30) days prior to the Annual Meeting, points won at said horse show shall be allowable in reckoning the total score for the year. Points submitted from the last eligible horse show for the year must be postmarked within twenty-five (25) days after the receipt prior to the Annual Meeting.
SECTION TWO. (a) To be eligible for the award, a horse must be registered with the Arabian Horse Association. The horse must be shown under its full registered name. (b) To be eligible the horse must be recorded with the Awards Committee of the Virginia Arabian Horse Association. No points shall be credited toward the trophy until the horse is properly recorded with the Association. (c) Horse recording must be submitted on the official VAHA recording form or a computer printout from the horse show secretary. Horse recording forms are available from the Association. The responsibility of such recording shall rest entirely with the owner. The recording fee is $10.00 per year per division entered.
SECTION THREE. (a) To be eligible for the awards, the owner of the horse must be a member in good standing of the Virginia Arabian Horse Association. Membership will be verified by the Membership Chairman. (b) In the case of a leased horse, the lessee must be a member in good standing of the Virginia Arabian Horse Association and must advise the VAHA Awards Committee Chairman that the horse is leased. Lessees must abide by all rules pertaining to owners. (c) When a recorded horse is sold, a transfer of ownership must be submitted to the VAHA Awards Committee Chairman by the seller stating the horse's name, to whom sold, and a full address and phone number of new owner. There is no charge for such transfers. (d) Ownership of a horse may be transferred without affecting the horse's score. Awards will be given to the recorded owner at the time the horse wins its last point in competition. (e) Points won previous to the date the owner becomes a member of the Virginia Arabian Horse Association will not count. SECTION
FOUR. (a) Points shall be scored for "A", "B",
or "C" rated shows. Points from unrecognized shows shall
count HALF that of the rated shows. (The Lewisfield Trophies are
an exception). (b) Points will count from qualifying shows in any
state.
(c) Points for IAHA Regional and National Competitions shall be
scored as follows:
IAHA Regionals, East Coast Championships
Champion 40, Reserve Champion 24, Top Five 16
Participation 10
U.S. Nationals, Youth Nationals, Canadian Nationals
Champion 80, Reserve Champion 48, Top Ten 32
Participation 20
(d) Five (5) points shall be awarded for each other horse show entered
upon proof of
participation in a least one (1) class. Points in classes at all
other horse shows shall be scored
according to the number of horses entered and judged in that class.
1st Place Number of horses in class
2nd Place Number of horses minus 2
3rd Place Number of horses minus 3 (and so forth)
(e) Points for Championship Classes shall be double the points earned
in Section Four (d) with the exception of Halter Classes. Championship
Halter Classes shall be scored as follows:
Senior Champion and Junior Champion (Mare, Stallion, or Gelding)

Reserve Senior Champion and Reserve Junior Champion 4
Grand Champion (Mare, Stallion, or Gelding) 7
Reserve Grand Champion 5
When Championships are awarded on a point basis, only the Champion
and Reserve Champion shall receive points. The Champion shall receive
ten (10) points and the Reserve Champion shall receive eight (8)
points.
(f) Each phase of eventing shall be scored as a horse show class.
Additional points will be awarded as follows: Overall High Score
- 25, Runner up - 15.
(g) Dressage points shall be awarded as other horse show classes.
Additional points will be scored upon completion of a test with
a score of 50% or better as follows:
Training Level: All tests - 3 points; 1st Level: All tests - 6 points; 2nd Level: All tests - 9 points; 3rd Level: All tests - 12 points;
4th Level: All tests - 15 points;
Over 4th Level -- 18 points
Scores over 60% will receive additional bonus points of the score
minus 60. Scores will rounded off to the nearest whole number.
(h) Points for Judged Trail Rides shall be scored as follows:
Participation 10
1st Place participation points plus 10
2nd Place participation points plus 8
3rd Place participation points plus 6
4th Place participation points plus 4
5th Place participation points plus 2
6th Place participation points plus 1
(i) Points for recognized Competitive Trail Rides shall be scored
as follows:
Completion of Ride 15
1st Place completion points plus 20
2nd Place completion points plus 12
3rd Place completion points plus 8
4th Place completion points plus 4
5th Place completion points plus 2
6th Place completion points plus 1
Best Conditioned Arabian or Half-Arabian additional 25
(j) Points for Endurance Trail Rides shall be scored as follows:

(k) Points won by any exhibitor or any horse, or at any horse show
which has been suspended or expelled from any horse show association
shall not be scored.
SECTION FIVE. The Virginia Arabian Horse Association Awards Committee shall maintain the only official record of winnings of participants in competition for the awards. It will be the duty of the Awards Committee Chairman to maintain the records of all winnings in competition. The Virginia Arabian Horse Association shall furnish free of charge forms for submitting results of competitions. Only points submitted on these forms, or computer printouts from the show secretary, shall be scored. The recording forms must be signed by the secretary of the horse show (in absence of a computer printout). A complete prize list or program must accompany each submission. The responsibility for submitting the completed form and prize list to the Awards Committee Chairman shall rest entirely with the exhibitor. These forms must be postmarked within thirty (30) days of the show date. The Awards Committee Chairman shall score all statements of winnings at his or her sole discretion. However, appeal of scoring may be submitted in writing to the Board of Directors at the least fifteen (15) days prior to the Annual Meeting.
LEWISFIELD
PERPETUAL TROPHY
WHEREAS:
Mr. and Mrs. James Fielding Lewis, Jr. have so generously donated
the beautiful Lewisfield Challenge Trophies to the Virginia Arabian
Horse Association, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that it should be incumbent
upon the Board of Directors to annually award the Lewisfield Perpetual
Trophies under the following rules:
PUREBRED
ARABIAN
SECTION
ONE. The winner of the trophy shall abide by the rules as stated
in SECTIONS ONE, TWO, THREE, and FIVE under GENERAL RULES.
SECTION
TWO. The winner of the trophy shall score the highest number of
points in OPEN competition at horse shows. For the purpose of awarding
this trophy, an Open Class is one which is NOT restricted to a particular
breed of horse. No points shall be credited toward the trophy for
classes restricted to Arabians.
SECTION
THREE. Points will be given for the first four (4) place ribbons
only, regardless of the number of ribbons offered.
SECTION
FOUR. (a) Points won in all eligible classes at member shows of
the Virginia Horse Show Association shall be scored as follows:

(b) Points won in all eligible classes at member shows of the USA
Equestrian shall be scored as above. (c) Points for Championships
and Championship Stakes in VHSA and/or USAE member shows shall be
double the score stated in Section Four (a). (d) Points won in all
eligible classes at unrecognized horse shows shall be scored as
follows:

(e) Points
for Championships and Championship Stakes in unrecognized shows
shall be double the score stated in Section Four (d). (f) When Championships
are awarded on a point basis, only the Champion and Reserve Champion
shall receive points. The Champion shall receive ten (10) points
and the Reserve Champion shall receive eight (8) points. (g) When
year-end Championships are awarded, the Champion shall receive fifteen
(15) points and the Reserve Champion shall receive thirteen (13)
points. (h) Points won in Halter, Model, or Breeding Classes in
open competition shall carry a premium of double the normal score.
(i) Placings won in Equitation Classes, Horsemanship Classes, Halter
Classes divided by breed, or any other class in which performance
or conformation is not a deciding factor shall not be scored.
HALF-ARABIAN
SECTION
ONE. The winner of the trophy shall abide by the rules as stated
in SECTIONS ONE, TWO, THREE, and FIVE under GENERAL RULES.
SECTION TWO. For the purpose of awarding this trophy, an Open Class
is one which is NOT restricted to a particular breed of horse. No
points shall be credited for classes restricted to Half-Arabians.
SECTION
THREE. All applicable rules from the Lewisfield Perpetual Trophy
- Purebred Arabian will cover the Lewisfield Perpetual Trophy -
Half-Arabian.
VAHA YOUTH ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
The Board of Directors of the Virginia Arabian Horse Association
shall annually award the Youth Achievement Award under the following
rules:
SECTION
ONE. The winner of the award shall be the participant who meets
the requirements for a Junior member in the current USAE Rulebook.
SECTION
TWO. (a) To be eligible a participant must be a Junior member in
good standing of the Virginia Arabian Horse Association, either
as an individual Junior member or through a Family or Breeder membership.
Points won previous to the date the youth becomes a Junior member
of VAHA will not count. Membership will be verified by the Membership
Chairman. (b) Points will count from only one (1) horse per show
for all classes, including equitation.
SECTION THREE. (a) Points for State, Regional and National competitions
shall be scored as follows:
4-H Championships (State) participation

Nationals, Youth Nationals, and all other horse shows shall be scored
as stated in SECTION FOUR under GENERAL RULES.

"B", or "C" rated divisions will be scored 5

(c) Points for year-end awards presented to the youth by organizations
other than this VAHA Awards Program shall be scored as follows:

VAHA
ADULT AMATEUR ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
The Board
of Directors of the Virginia Arabian Horse Association shall annually
award the Adult Amateur Achievement Award following all applicable
rules under the VAHA Youth Achievement Award. To be eligible for
an award, an Adult Amateur must meet the requirements for an Amateur
member in the current USAE Rulebook.
VAHA MOST VERSATILE ARABIAN PERPETUAL TROPHY
The Board
of Directors of the Virginia Arabian Horse Association shall annually
award the Most Versatile Arabian and the Most Versatile Half-Arabian
Perpetual Trophies under the following rules:
SECTION
ONE. The winners of these trophies shall abide by the rules as stated
in SECTIONS ONE, TWO, THREE, and FIVE under GENERAL RULES.
SECTION
TWO. (a) Points MUST be earned in at least six (6) of the following
categories. At least one (1) of the six categories MUST be performed
outside the show ring or other confined area. Show ring classes
held outside the ring shall not count as the outside category.
(b) NO MORE THAN 50% of the total points may be earned in any one
category. Points that exceed 50% of the total in one category shall
be forfeited.
(c) Categories are as follows:

4. Park
5. Western Pleasure
6. Show Ring Trail/Western Riding

(NOTE: An exhibition includes activities such as a horse on display
at a fair, a horse used for youth judging contest, a horse used
for a demonstration at any show or activity. Any exhibit where the

shall not count as an outside-the-ring activity. The Awards Committee
shall rule on any activity should its eligibility be questioned.)
.DIVISION HIGH POINT AWARDS
The Board
of Directors of the Virginia Arabian Horse Association shall annually
award the High Point in each of the following divisions: Halter,
Western Pleasure, Hunter Pleasure, Hunter/Jumper, English Pleasure/Country
English Pleasure/Park/Driving, Show Hack, Dressage, Trail, Sidesaddle,
and Native Costume, Sport Horse In Hand, and Sport Horse Under Saddle.
SECTION ONE. The awards shall be presented in the Arabian and Half-Arabian
divisions and will abide by the rules as stated in SECTIONS ONE,
TWO, THREE, and FIVE under GENERAL RULES.
SECTION
TWO. Points shall be scored as stated in SECTION FOUR under GENERAL
RULES.
